The Community recovers the original route of the Greenway of Alguazas (27/02/2017)

The new route will improve the traffic of hikers, cyclists and pilgrims to Caravaca de la Cruz during the Holy Year 2017, since the route coincides with the Camino de Levante

The supply of rural accommodation in the Region increased by 4 percent in 2016, reaching 594 premises and 3,873 places

The Greenway of the Northwest as it passes through Alguazas has recovered its original route.

It is a journey of almost eight kilometers, of which 2.5 cover the area around the local railway station, and the rest are in close proximity to the countryside.

In addition, signaling and the introduction of safety and environmental improvement elements have been carried out.

This was explained this morning by the director general of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, during the visit to the recovered section, where he was also able to see first hand another of the most outstanding parts of the works, a pedestrian metal walkway, 27 meters Of length, in the urban nucleus that works like superior passage to save the crossing of which is well-known like Road of Sewer in Alguazas.

The execution of the work has depended on the Community, which has acted with its own funds and with European funds Feder, in addition to the collaboration of the City Council of Alguazas and the Consorcio de las Vías Verdes.

According to Fernández-Delgado, the new route "will improve the traffic of hikers, cyclists and pilgrims to Caravaca de la Cruz during the Holy Year 2017, as the route coincides with the Camino de Levante."

With the recovery of these routes, the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment seeks to contribute to boosting the interior areas by attracting tourists in the low season, encouraging nature activities, strengthening ecological tourism and adapting spaces that can be used for recreational, sports And mobility.

Indoor tourism

The influx of tourists in the interior of the Region increased by 8.7 percent in the last 12 months, receiving a record influx of 175,492 tourists in regulated housing.

In 2016, the rural housing offer amounted to 594 rooms, distributed in hostels and rural houses, and a housing capacity of 3,873 places.

In this sense, this is a 4 percent higher than in 2015. In addition, the increasing opening of shelters comes to add another 40 establishments with a supply of places that exceeds 1,800.
