British students visiting King's College Vega CES Media Project occasion CLEOPATRA language exchange (26/05/2011)

Last Tuesday, May 24 presented at the Center for Secondary Education "Vega Media" Alguazas CLEOPATRA project of educational innovation for teaching foreign languages ​​in which Spanish students participate Media Center Alguazas Vega, and English from the center King's College British Murcia.

The event was attended by the Councillor for Education of the town, Isabel Zamora, 24 pupils from the UK, accompanied by their director, Mr. Robin Silk, and teachers involved in the project.

Vega CES Professor of Media, Javier Saorin, and Spanish teacher in the British center, Maria Balsalobre, who are the coordinators of the program, presented the work to assistants.

CLEOPATRA, which corresponds to the acronym of "Cultural Exchange Program Open and Assembly Language and Learning Resources", is a system of second language learning based on language immersion and direct contact between native students of both languages.

It has been designed taking into account innovative methodologies that have produced excellent results in other countries and considering the use of digital platforms, social networks and other new technologies of information and communication.

The project is divided into several stages, in principle, over two courses.

In its first phase has been initiated contact through correspondence between the students, who have also been able to communicate via videoconferencing and using social networks like Facebook or Tuenti.

In a second encounter occurred in the person of the participants, who lived on Tuesday a day of living in which there was no shortage of trade activities in English and Spanish language face to face joint projects in the language lab center , interview in English to students of the British center in the radio studio, or a hockey game, among others.

In the next phase which will start next month, families will host British students during a weekend Spanish students and vice versa.

Thus the cultural and linguistic exchange will become much more rewarding and efficient.

The president of Vega CES Media, Maria Jose Martinez and the heads of both schools, Isabel Gonzalez and Robin Silk, assessed as very positive experience and reaffirmed their commitment to further develop this and other joint initiatives in future courses.
