Approved the hiring of the works of the wastewater treatment plant Alguazas (27/05/2011)

The Governing Council has given approval to hire construction of new wastewater treatment station of Alguazas.

This is the last major treatment plant that will complete the remediation of the river Segura.

With its construction, sewage all municipalities in the region will be treated in sewage of high technology.

The Cohesion Fund will finance the European Union by 80 percent this important hydraulic work, which involves an investment of 9.5 billion euros.

The plant includes specific tertiary treatment system for reuse of wastewater in agriculture.

The plant design includes strict tertiary treatment system that eliminates 97 percent of the pollution load, compared with 75 percent required by the European Union.

The new plant will have a treatment capacity of 15,000 cubic meters of water a day.

In addition, provides all the protection measures and environmental soundness and complete deodorization and soundproofing.

This project is part of the General Plan for Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment in the Region of Murcia, which has enabled the Region of Murcia recover more than 100 hectometres of water per year and the environmental improvement of river Segura, which is currently the less polluted river in Spain.
