Alguazas celebrates the first thematic sessions on the use of the cane (29/06/2012)

"Our grandparents are the cane" is the playful and suggestive title of the first thematic sessions on the cane that has driven Alguazas Delegation in the Region of Murcia of the Spanish Association for Environmental Education, an initiative developed on 13 June has also had input from both the local council as various groups of people such as the Club of the Elderly and Associations "Alegra" Women and Alguazas.

These days of monographic and training aimed at children and adults and conducted in the area known as "Hill of the Misindos" alguaceña population, consisted of a workshop for the reuse of common reed present in the margins Mula river to rework tools like phones, flutes, castanets and comets.

To conclude the event and to share experiences, the organization offered a meal of coexistence in which all participants could enjoy a pleasant day on the banks of Mula.

Among those attending this event highlighted the councilors of Environment Affairs, Senior Citizens and Youth City Council Alguazas, Francisco Javier Garcia Gambín, Maria Dolores Hernandez Garcia and Joaquin Lopez Verdu, respectively, and the skilled artisan in the reuse of the cane, Jose Luis Martinez Garcia.

The objective of this initiative is to recover an activity that is currently displaced by the use of synthetic materials that could solve a problem such as patent and excessive growth and proliferation of the cane in the channels of our rivers, and offers the opportunity to be living with our elders and to exchange experiences and are currently in use.

Note that these thematic sessions on the use of the cane are part of the project "The Mula river awakens your senses," focused on promoting citizen participation through various volunteer activities to promote the conservation and restoration of margins this tributary of the Segura and it is designed to promote the enjoyment and interaction of all residents and entities participating in a program providing sustainable alternatives and environmentally friendly and adapted to all sorts of ages and cultural levels.

The said project "Mula river awakens your senses", launched under the auspices of the Volunteer Program in Rivers of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and channeled by the Segura basin, is coordinated by the Delegation in the Region Murcia of the Spanish Association for Environmental Education and with the participation of the City of Alguazas, University of Murcia and local authorities as "Alegra", Association of Women of the municipality, the Senior Club and the Association of Nigerian Women Alguazas.
