Occupational Classroom to motivate students and prevent absenteeism in Secondary Education (17/10/2011)

In addition to studying core subjects, students learn the craft of welding and have a family counseling service.

The City of Alguazas, in a bid to prevent truancy among students in Secondary Education, has launched this year the Occupational Classroom, an ambitious project that the Department of Education, Employment and Training aims to reduce the risk of dropouts among children under 16 years.

Councillor delegate, Isabel Zamora has expressed his council's concern for absenteeism in the classroom and the need to eradicate.

The Occupational Classroom project, developed through agreement between the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment of the Autonomous Region and the City of Alguazas, through the Department of Education, provides for the coordination between the two administrations.

Thus, the regional will take care of the teacher, giving the Hall Occupational three teachers, one full-time taught instrumental subject, one full-time teacher for welding modules and a social mediator, hired part-time, responsible for mediation between families and the city center.

The Department of Training and Employment, in turn, assumes the installation and maintenance of facilities (both classroom teaching and the craft of welding) offers the students a technical council to coordinate the program and track the the students.

By order of the grant call, the session will receive 5,000 euros from the Autonomous Community and the IES Villa de Alguazas another 2,000, an amount which shall bear the costs of the project.

After the meeting between the director of IES Alguazas Villa Magdalena Galmés, professor of community services of that institution, Enrique Gonzalez, and the Councillor for Education, Training and Employment of the City of Alguazas, Isabel Zamora, it was decided to Classroom implementation of Occupational Welding for the current school year.

Students are, like the rest of students enrolled in secondary school, have the same schedule and with the same academic standards as the rest of high school students Alguazas villa, to which they belong.

The Occupational Aula is a small class of 15 students-gifted-for students who no longer wish to continue in the education system but, by law, are required to attend classes.

They are those who have not attained 16 years but pose a serious risk of dropping out.

Through this project, they and their families have expressly undertaken to take this new educational opportunity for training in a trade.

In addition, this educational resource not only help them choose a future, it will facilitate the access bridge in the formation process of vocational training courses culminating in PCPI, Initial Vocational Training Program.
