The treatment plant will complete the general plan Alguazas purification of high technology in all municipalities of the Region (14/08/2012)

The new plant, whose commissioning is scheduled for September 2013, is strategically located to take advantage of the current drive system, drainage and water reserve

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerda and Alguazas Mayor Jose Antonio Fernandez Lladó, today visited the construction of the sewage of the municipality that will have a treatment capacity of 15,000 cubic meters of water a day and a population equivalent of 150,000.

The Minister explained that it is "one of the hydraulic works projects most important in Spain at present", and the last major treatment plant along the river Segura and all municipalities along the river as Calasparra, Cieza, Abarán, Blanca, Murcia, including Ricote, Ojós, Ulea and Villanueva, Lorquí, Ceuta, Las Torres de Cotillas and Molina de Segura, "have for years with modern treatment plants," he said.

The new plant represents an investment of 9.5 million euros financed by 80 percent by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

This, explained the director, "a productive investment because it can increase water availability hectometres five year strategic point in the Segura basin."

The head of Water stressed that the reuse of treated wastewater "is a practice economically very important because it not only gives assurance to the activity of irrigation, but also helps to reduce costs by increasing competitiveness."

The owner of Agriculture and Water said the new treatment plant Alguazas is in a state of construction "very advanced" and its commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2013.

It is designed with modern and advanced technologies and includes the specific tertiary treatment system for reuse of wastewater in agriculture.

"Also, covers all environmental protection measures and a complete deodorization process and soundproofing," he said.

This book is the last major project that integrates the General Plan for Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment in the Region of Murcia.

The Ministry of Agriculture focus the next steps in sewers and sewage infrastructure of small towns as well as energy optimization programs.

Cerda said that the reuse of treated water "represents almost 20 percent of water used in irrigation Murcia", a situation, said, "that is not achieved elsewhere in the world."

The Murcia region fully recovers its waters with more than 100 cubic hectometres year.
