Alguazas City Council has commemorated on November 25, International Day Against Violence Against Women (25/11/2008)

The ceremony started with the distribution of white ribbons and brochures by the Councillor for Equality, Dori Bermudez and City staff.

The Department has arranged a booth at the weekly market and provided information to residents and visitors about the First Equal Opportunities Plan launched in 2007.

At noon, students from primary and belonging to ESO IES Villa de Alguazas, Vega CES Media and Monte Anaor CEIP, accompanied by representatives of the AMPAS, members of the educational community associations, residents and visitors gathered in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to to read the Manifesto of the November 25 Institute of Women of the Region of Murcia.

Previously, the Autopia Theatre Group, which has been performing in the secondary schools in various works relating to gender violence, staged a performance in which recreated a man abuse a woman and what grounds it originated.

The work he wanted to send a message to all women who are abused by their partners, encouraging them to denounce these actions, eliminating the feeling of guilt and showing the real values to be present in couples: love, friendship, kindness, understanding, friendship ...

Alguazas Mayor, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, reiterated the strong commitment of this institution in the fight against one of the worst scourges that supports our society and, unfortunately, it costs the lives of dozens of women each year.

In his speech, the mayor, expressed his revulsion at the attacks and murders that occur almost daily and being reported daily as they begin to assume as inevitable.

However, there is nothing inevitable or fatal domestic violence.

The public authorities, institutions, associations and citizens should be involved, jointly, in the fight against the abuse suffered by many women.

Can not agree that domestic violence will increasingly more in our country.

The event was an emotional tribute to the 60 murders of women that have occurred so far this year and requested the Government of Spain means and resources, since the existing shows that are insufficient to combat and eradicate female abuse in Spain.

In the afternoon, about 60 people came from the Town Hall Square to attend the Institutional Act of the Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Migration, held in the Auditorium and Congress Center "Victor Villegas", presented by the popular journalist and presenter TV, Inma Soriano.

Hundreds of participants from across the region attended a play and a short film.
