The plant will recover 5 annual hectometres have tertiary treatment for water reuse in agriculture

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today Alguazas Mayor, José Antonio Fernández, the foundations of the new treatment plant project in the municipality, which constitutes "a milestone because it is the last major missing water treatment plant to be built in the Segura river banks, "explained Cerdá.

The counselor said that with this installation "gives a qualitative change Alguazas joining the network of cities that are friendly to the environment, restoring natural resources and optimizing the low volumes of water available."

During the presentation of the project, responsible Murcia Water stressed that "the new facility will substantially improve the purification of the former impoundment."

The new plant will have a treatment capacity of 15,000 cubic meters of water per day, which can be obtained up to 5 hectometres year.

The investment is 14.5 million euros from the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, and will have a 80 percent support from the Cohesion Fund of the European Union.

The plant is designed with modern and advanced technologies that include specific tertiary treatment system for reuse of wastewater in agriculture.

"It's a more rigorous treatment of the established European Union in this matter," said the counselor.

Also, covers all environmental protection measures as a complete deodorization and soundproofing.

Cerda said that all municipalities along the river Segura, as Calasparra, Cieza, Abarán White, Archena (includes Ricote, Eyes, Ulea and Villanueva), Lorquí, Ceuta, Las Torres de Cotillas and Molina de Segura, already have modern water treatment plants, and "now comes the opportunity to Alguazas."

Murcia Councilor stressed that once they have made favorable studies of environmental impact assessment and land made available by the City Council, they will immediately start the procedures for bidding, according to the foundation project presented today.

He noted that it is also building in the city a deposit of 12,000 cubic meters emergency "to prevent uncontrolled discharges to the river Segura and rainwater recovery, with an investment of 3 million euros.

With all these actions, the planned investments in Alguazas are close to 18 million euros.
